The Republican Party of Florida has taken legal action against News 6 and several television stations in Orlando and Tampa Bay in relation to a political advertisement concerning the Hope Florida situation. The lawsuit, filed on October 16, asserts that airing the essence of a grand jury report that has been erased is illegal. The complaint also implicates the Florida Democratic Party and three Democratic statewide candidates amid ongoing early voting and the upcoming November 3 election.
The ad in question is a 30-second spot financed by the Florida Democratic Party, featuring candidates David Jolly, José Javier Rodríguez, and Annette Taddeo. It references a leaked grand jury report addressing Hope Florida, specifically targeting Attorney General James Uthmeier, who is a candidate in the upcoming election. Although a group involved in the report sought to prevent its publication, a court denied their request. The lawsuit’s foundation is based on a ruling by Florida’s First District Court of Appeal that called for the grand jury report to be erased.
