The Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida is commencing construction on a significant new facility, the Center for Women and Families, with an investment of $57 million in downtown Orlando. This initiative aims to enhance services and accommodation for individuals facing homelessness.
Located at 18 N. Terry Avenue in Parramore, the more than 105,000-square-foot center is projected to boost the Coalition’s capacity by 40 to 50 percent. Plans include 112 additional short-term beds, over 75 bridge housing beds, an on-site health clinic, expanded meal services, and programs for childcare and youth. The facility aims to assist families in regaining stability by providing integrated housing, healthcare, and support services.
Funding includes $19.5 million from Orange County via federal grants and an additional $10 million from the City of Orlando’s Accelerate Orlando initiative. The completion of the construction is anticipated by January 2028. A groundbreaking event is set for Wednesday, October 28, at 10:30 a.m., with attendance expected from local leaders including Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings.

So much for revitilizing Parramore, this move will almost assure it turns into Orlando’s skidrow.
